Axworthy Congratulates New Manitoba Government

WINNIPEG, MB – Dr. Lloyd Axworthy, President and Vice-Chancellor, University of Winnipeg offers sincere congratulations to Premier Greg Selinger and his team for their victory in last night’s provincial election.

“Premier Selinger has placed a high priority on strong and accessible post-secondary education” said Axworthy. “I look forward to continuing our mutual mission of closing the graduation gap for Aboriginal students and supporting new immigrants and inner-city youth through increased educational and recreational opportunities, so that all Manitobans, regardless of socio-economic background, may follow their dreams.”

Axworthy also congratulates all candidates who ran for office and their hundreds of volunteers for valuing the democratic process through their dedicated work.

On behalf of the University of Winnipeg community, Axworthy extends special congratulations to Kevin Chief, the new MLA for Point Douglas, who, as Coordinator of UWinnipeg’s Innovative Learning Centre, has created highly-respected and effective programs such as Eco-Kids on Campus and the Eco-U Summer camp which benefit hundreds of inner-city youth.
