Compelling Photos Tell War Story

Celebrated photographer Donald Weber’s work on display

080414WINNIPEG, MB – Donald Weber’s striking photo exhibit, War is No Place for a Child: Images of Development in Action, will be at The University of Winnipeg’s Library, mezzanine level from April 21-25, 2008 from 10:00 am–6:00 pm daily. The compelling photos feature War Child Canada’s humanitarian projects in Sierra Leone, northern Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Weber’s acclaimed photographs document the development issues and challenges facing children in each of these war-affected countries.

War Child Canada, in partnership with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), and UWinnipeg’s Global College are hosting the photo exhibit on campus.

Weber is an award-winning Canadian photographer. His work has been featured in many of the world’s most prominent publications including Der Spiegel, The Guardian, The London Times, Maclean’s, The New York Times, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, Stern and Time. His photography is known for its ability to capture the lives of his subjects in an extraordinary light.

The UWinnipeg War is No Place for a Child: Images of Development in Action photo exhibit is free and open to the public.

During the week of the photo exhibit, Dr. Samantha Nutt, founder and executive director of War Child Canada, will be speaking on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at 7:30 pm in Convocation Hall, 515 Portage Avenue, on The world as our backyard: Individual responsibility for a global age.

War Child Canada is a registered Canadian charity dedicated to providing urgently needed humanitarian assistance to war-affected children around the world. War Child Canada helps generate awareness, support and advocacy for children’s rights everywhere.
