WINNIPEG, MB – On September 12, 2010, the University of Winnipeg Students’ Association (UWSA) will celebrate its daycare’s one-year anniversary since moving into an expanded, state of the art facility, located on 548 Furby Place.
“We can hardly believe it has been a year since we moved into our new facility,” said Diana Rozos, UWSA Daycare Manager. “We are very happy with our new space; it is so good to have the much needed infant/toddler program, our own green space, the windows which provide all the natural light, more space for children to learn and grow in and most of all a centre built for children, with children in mind.”
Students funded this 10,000 square foot and LEED Silver Standard facility with a 1.1 million dollar donation from the UWSA, a matched contribution from the University of Winnipeg, and a 400K grant from the government of Manitoba.
“The UWSA Daycare allows students with children to study on campus. Given the 3-year waiting list, access to childcare in the province is a hardship for many parents, especially those who are students. With 112 spaces in our daycare, we are bridging the gap between parenthood and continued learning,” said Jason Syvixay, President of the UWSA.
Lana Hastings, Vice President Student Services of the UWSA continues, “the UWSA would like to congratulate its Daycare Manager, Diana Rozos, and her committed staff, for believing in and supporting the expansion of the facility and continuing to sustain this valued service to students, faculty, and community members.”
The UWSA will celebrate this milestone by acknowledging the hard work of its daycare staff and by continuing to create awareness about this important service. The UWSA urges the continued financial support from the Province of Manitoba, for investing in early childcare enrichment.
