Doran Reid retires as Athletic Director

The University of Winnipeg offers a sincere thank you and congratulations to Doran Reid. After more than 27 years of dedicated service to Wesmen Athletics, Doran is retiring as Athletic Director to explore other opportunities in Ottawa.

Doran received his BA from UWinnipeg in 1981. He began his career in Athletics in 1989 at the Duckworth Centre Service Desk.  From there he moved on to coordinate and then manage athletics facilities and events. He followed that by taking on all functions related to the operation of the Duckworth Centre and Wesmen Athletics, first as Associate Athletic Director, then as Acting Athletic Director, and in 2009, after a formal search, he was appointed Athletic Director.

Effective July 1, Dave Crook, former Coach and currently Manager of Marketing and Sponsorship for Wesmen Athletics, will assume the role of Acting Athletic Director. Dave has a long association with Wesmen Athletics. He is also a UWinnipeg alumnus (1982), and has worked as the head men’s basketball coach at three universities — Mount Allison, Lethbridge, and Winnipeg.  He was also involved with various national basketball programs, and is currently coaching a middle-years girls’ basketball team.  Dave has also taught academic courses at the university level for more than 20 years.

While Marketing Manager for Wesmen Athletics, Dave has created a highly successful Wesmen Athletics Scholarship Golf Tournament, now in its 6th year. The Gupta Faculty of Kinesiology and Applied Health is pleased to welcome Dave Crook and his breadth of knowledge and experience as Acting Athletic Director.

Once again, the UWinnipeg community wishes Doran Reid much success in his future endeavours.
