Movies & Academics Create Double Hitter At UWinnipeg

WINNIPEG, MB – The University of Winnipeg’s Theatre and Film department celebrates two of its distinguished faculty, Shelagh Carter and Per Brask for movie credits & crediting academics.

Set for Broadcast
Astral Media Canada has licensed Shelagh Carter’s film and which is set for broadcast on the Movie Network, with broadcast dates yet to be announced.

The Canadian Film Centre in Toronto invited Carter in 2008 to participate in an exclusive workshop intensive to develop film projects along with a select group of other Canadian professionals. At the conclusion of the workshop, Carter’s project was chosen for development and was awarded $250,000 in production support. Carter directed and completed the film this past summer of 2009 with the support The University of Winnipeg.

National Scope of Expertise
Professor Shelagh Carter’s work with the Canadian Film Centre serves to demonstrate the national scope of her expertise in film”, said Tim Babcook, UWinnipeg Chair, Theatre and Film. “Her work and expertise reflects well on the University and the Department of Theatre and Film and at the same time her work has provided invaluable experience for her to bring to the clasroom and to the Winnipeg film community.”

Depth of Scholarship
Per Brask was granted a three-year appointment as Visiting Professor of Theatre and Consciousness for a three-year term at the prestigious School of Performing Arts, University of Lincoln, UK. This international recognition represents the depth of scholarship Brask brings to the Department of Theatre and Film at UWinnipeg.

This appointment will allow Professor Brask greater opportunities for international exchange with the School and contribution to the MA program in Theatre and Consciousness. This international appointment will also aid further collaboration with Professor Daniel Meyer-Dinkgraefe, while Brask still maintains his teaching and research activities here in Winnipeg.
