On Thursday, January 19, 2006 University of Winnipeg President Lloyd Axworthy was appointed head of the Organization of American States (OAS) Mission that will monitor upcoming elections in Peru.
After meeting with Axworthy at OAS headquarters, the Secretary General of (OAS) José Miguel Insulza, said the longtime Canadian diplomat’s international stature, experience, and knowledge of both Peru and the OAS made him a logical choice to lead the observation mission.
