UWinnipeg, Faculty Association achieve new Collective Agreement

WINNIPEG, MB – The proposed three-year Collective Agreement reached between The University of Winnipeg and the University of Winnipeg Faculty Association (UWFA) on February 8 has been accepted by UWFA membership. The agreement, achieved last weekend with the assistance of a provincially-appointed mediator, has been ratified with strong support of faculty association members. UWFA membership voted on the proposal from February 12-14.

Last week’s mediated bargaining focused solely on compensation and benefits; the parties had agreed on all other terms of the contract. The new deal includes changes in governance language; enhancements to the salary scale that govern starting salaries, career progress, and maximum salaries; and general salary increases of 2.5%, 2.4%, and 2.0% plus lump sum payments. The financial terms are comparable to the most recent agreement reached at the University of Manitoba.

“This agreement is a significant achievement that will strengthen the University and its deep commitment to research, teaching, and learning activities. We congratulate both bargaining teams on finding a resolution that acknowledges and respects the needs of all parties. We hope it underscores our mutual dedication to the best interests of our students and to collectively addressing the funding shortfalls that constrict our institution,” said Dr. Lloyd Axworthy, President and Vice-Chancellor, UWinnipeg.”
