WINNIPEG, MB – The University of Winnipeg will be celebrating International Adult Learners Week (IALW) during the first week of April. The week is designated by the Canadian Commission for UNESCO as a time to recognize adult learners across the country and celebrate the joy of learning throughout life.
To mark the upcoming international celebration, adult learners at UWinnipeg were recently invited to share their personal learning journeys – how and why they returned to pursue post-secondary education. A student at UWinnipeg is considered to be an “adult learner” if he/she has taken a break of three or more years from formal education before starting or resuming university.
Typically, adult learners are 21 years of age or older and have accumulated significant work and life experience. The decision to start or resume university is often a critical one with enormous impact on the individual and his/her family. The obstacles they face can be very challenging.
The University plans to post these submissions on its website, starting the first week of April, and will host a wine-and-cheese party for all participants later that week.
