The University of Winnipeg competed in the 15th annual Kinesiology Games in Guelph against 16 other Universities from across Canada and won top honour. The award, otherwise known as “The Shoe”, recognizes the school that best exemplifies the qualities of athleticism, spirit and sportsmanship.

“We could not be more pleased and excited about receiving this honour,” said Kelly Van Caeyzeele and Tamra Irwin, team co-captains. “UWinnipeg has only been competing at this national competition for three years now and this is a major success for us. This is the first time the University has won the coveted “shoe” trophy.”

UWinnipeg’s team consisted of 20 Kinesiology students. The theme this year was “light your flame” to commemorate the 2010 Winter Olympics held in Vancouver.

The team placed 2nd in the academic challenge competing against other schools such as York, Toronto, McGill and Laurier. The team placed 2nd in the dance competition, 3rd in inner tube water polo and 4th in football. School spirit and sportsmanship were also recognized as major contributors to the team’s win.
