The UWPG Film Festival is now accepting submissions until September 23.

The annual student film festival, which has taken place since 2002, has showcased the work of post-secondary filmmakers from across Canada. The UWPG Film Festival’s mission is to provide a stepping stone for student filmmakers to expose themselves to the greater industry outside of their post-secondary institutions and celebrate new, emerging filmmakers.

This year’s festival, which is free to attend, takes place October 19 – 22.

Returning to an in-person celebration

Organizers are working with the support of The University of Winnipeg’s Department of Theatre and Film to bring back the festival for in-person screenings and panels, while also continuing to offer each other, the students, and community a live-stream option of the programs for all around the world to view.

If you are a filmmaker, you’re encouraged to submit your film online at uwpgfilmfestival.com. This year, more than any other year, is an opportunity to have your film seen back in front of a live audience. If you’re a viewer online, films will be made available to view via YouTube live!

Programming consideration

All submissions will be considered by the UWPG Film Festival selection committee. Selected films will be programmed into our block our programming over four nights. Categories include: Manitoba Shorts, Canadian Shorts, Animated Shorts, or International Shorts.

Applicants will be notified of programming decisions via email by October 5th, 2022.

Entry procedures

To submit your film for consideration, you can submit through FilmFreeway. Please note: If your video has a password, the password must not change during the programming process.

You are eligible to submit your film if:

●  You were a post-secondary student during the 2021/22 academic year.

●  The length of your submission(s) are under 25 minutes in length.

●  The film must be completed after January 2021.

Organizers want to see what Canadian students are creating in 2022, so, to keep the content relevant and current, only films completed in the last two years will be considered.
