The Wesmen played a solid match as they defeated the University of Toronto 3-0 at the Lea Marc Marc Volleyball Challenge held Sunday, October 1, 2006.
The Wesmen held the lead for a majority of the first set with a combination of great offensive and defensive play to win the first set 25-21. In the second set, the Wesmen held a slim 8-5 lead at the first technical timeout and expanded their lead to 16-8 at the second technical of the set. Toronto did manage to close the gap to 22-19 before the Wesmen attack closed out the set to win by a score of 25-21. In the third set, the Wesmen got off to a rocky start but tied the score at 22-22.
After a key block by Marlee Bragg and Dayna Kiesman, the Wesmen relied on back-to-back kills by Nicola Dirks to carry the team to a 25-23 set victory.
