All are invited to hear esteemed scholar Dr. Anton Treuer deliver a lecture titled “How to Learn an Indigenous Language”, the fourth event from the Weweni Indigenous Speakers Series at UWinnipeg, which presents distinguished Indigenous scholars and celebrates the success of UWinnipeg students throughout academic year 2015–2016.
Prior to the lecture, there will be a special ceremony conducted by Dr. Treuer, during which the UWinnipeg Aboriginal Student Council will be gifted a Drum to be used at their Graduation Pow Wow and at any other ceremonies that they host in the future. A feast will follow the ceremony, prior to the speaking event.

Dr. Anton Treuer is Professor of Ojibwe at Bemidji State University and author of 14 books. He is the Editor of the Oshkaabewis (pronounced o-shkaah-bay-wis) Native Journal, the only academic journal of the Ojibwe language. He has received more than 40 prestigious awards and fellowships from various institutions—including the MacArthur Foundation.
