Sustainability is a pillar of good corporate citizenship in today’s business world. Beginning September 2017, The University of Winnipeg Professional, Applied and Continuing Education (PACE) is offering a new program designed to give professionals the skills they need to become leaders in corporate responsibility.
Graduates of PACE’s new Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility Certificate program will have the expertise to develop sustainability strategies that cover a range of organizational challenges — such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, maximizing operational benefits to local communities, and improving corporate health and wellness efforts.
“No matter the sector, businesses and agencies are increasingly being asked to rise to the occasion of our shared sustainability imperative,” says Alana Lajoie-O’Malley, Senior Advisor, UWinnipeg Research and Sustainability. “This exciting new program at PACE will provide valuable opportunities for professionals in our province to develop their skills in sustainability management and corporate responsibility and to bring these skills into their work.”
The program’s key concepts include organizational practices for the 21st century, measuring and establishing sustainability performance indicators, creating an institutional culture of corporate responsibility, developing a climate action plan, and climate-proofing investments.
The Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility Certificate is offered on a part-time basis and is made up of five courses that can be completed in a little over one year.
This certificate program was developed in consultation with local private and public organizations including CanSustain Management Solutions Inc, the Winnipeg Airports Authority, the Royal Canadian Mint, Integrated Design Inc, National Defense, the Northwest Company, Green Manitoba, the Government of Manitoba, and the Economic Development Council for Manitoba Bilingual Municipalities.
These organizations provided important insight, first-hand experience, and real-world strategies that will benefit future PACE students in the emerging area of sustainability education.
