The University of Winnipeg community congratulates Ivan Roksandic (Associate Professor, Anthropology) whose book, Cuban Archaeology in the Caribbean, has recently been recognized by Choice as a 2017 recipient of the Outstanding Academic Titles award.
Cuban Archaeology in the Caribbean, edited by Ivan Roksandic, includes chapters by Ivan Roksandic, Mirjana Roksandic (Professor, Anthropology), Yadira Chinique des Armas (Instructor, Anthropology), and Kaitlynn Alarie (graduate UWinnipeg, Anthropology, and current MA student), as well as other national and international scholars.
The chapters, taken together, show how the rich combination of approaches characteristic of Anthropology can come together to illuminate human experiences. As the publisher (University of Florida, 2016) writes:
With contributions from archaeology, physical anthropology, environmental archaeology, paleobotany, linguistics, and ethnohistory, this volume adds to ongoing debates concerning migration and colonization. It examines the importance of landscape and seascape in shaping human experience; the role that contact and interaction between different groups play in building identity; and the contribution of native groups to the biological and cultural identity of post-contact and modern societies.
