WINNIPEG, MB – The University of Winnipeg is once again placed 4th in Canada among primarily undergraduate universities (out of 19) for overall reputation, according to the 2013 Annual Maclean’s Ranking of Canadian Universities which was released this morning.
The overall reputation ranking is significant because Maclean’s solicits the views of the community at large including CEOs, heads of national and regional organizations, high school guidance counsellors and recruiters.
UWinnipeg also placed in the top third in Canada for maintaining smaller class sizes and in the top half in Canada for attracting peer-adjudicated research grants.
“I have had a very positive experience here on campus,” said Chelsea Grove, UWinnipeg student who is studying criminal justice and psychology. “There are lots of additional support to access from staff and professors. Everybody is so friendly and helpful.”
“We value being in the Top 5 in Canada in terms of our overall reputation, because that tells us we are connecting to the broader community by offering students a multidisciplinary and high quality education,” said Dr. Lloyd Axworthy, President and Vice-Chancellor, UWinnipeg. “Our professors are also engaged in relevant research – from saving little brown bats to tackling multiple sclerosis and homelessness in Canadian cities – and the Maclean’s survey confirms that research is being recognized and increasingly funded.”
Last week, the Globe & Mail Canadian University Report 2014 profiled 60 universities and characterized The University of Winnipeg as progressive, and singled out the number of innovative financial aid programs offered to support Aboriginal and refugee students.
