Following 10 months of renovations—through sun, rain, snow, and chilling winds—work on the front face of Wesley Hall’s façade has been completed. The doors will officially reopen on January 24, 2005, allowing traffic to resume through the main entrance of Wesley Hall, and permitting an up-close look at the area that has been behind safety fencing since the project began. New windows, a fresh set of stairs, and of course, new stonework, now welcome students, faculty, staff, and visitors to the over 100-year-old edifice.
As pictured above, construction is ongoing on the southwest turret and the west façade. Beginning January 25, 2005, the construction team will start work on the southeast turret and the east façade. This phase of renovations is expected to be complete within the next four months.
For safety reasons, the walkway between the east side of Wesley Hall and Bryce and Ashdown Halls will be closed, as of January 25, 2005. Instead, members of the University community, as well as guests and visitors, are encouraged to use the front door of Wesley (facing Portage Avenue) for entering and exiting Wesley Hall. Access to Bryce Hall and Ashdown Hall is available through the second-floor overpass from Wesley Hall, or through Centennial Hall. Seniors and those with disabilities are encouraged to enter the campus through Lockhart Hall’s Ellice Avenue entrance, or Riddell Hall’s Spence Street entrance.
A series of banners will be placed strategically—welcoming people to the campus and redirecting them while the reconstruction is ongoing. Again, with the aim of increased safety, Lot B will become the main pedestrian entrance to the campus.
