First-year student wins $5000 tuition credit

Bailey-Truss-wp2Student Recruitment and Institutional Relations is pleased to announce that Bailey Truss, from Lockport Manitoba, is the winner of its annual $5,000 tuition credit draw.

Truss is a 2015 graduate from Lord Selkirk Regional High School, who plans to study science with a main focus in biology. She entered the draw during a high school presentation at her school by one of UWinnipeg’s Recruitment Officers. Prospective students enter the draw by filling out a VIP card, and entries are collected throughout the school year at more than 130 recruitment events.

“When Bailey learned of her win she was ecstatic,” said Ashley Dunlop, UWinnipeg Recruitment Coordinator. “The recruitment team collected nearly 4,000 eligible entries last year as we guided students from exploring their post-secondary options, to applying and finally registering for their courses. Calling Bailey to inform her of her big win is an exciting culmination to our year meeting and working with students across the province.”

Truss will be attending the First Year Orientation that runs from August 31 – September 3, 2015.  Students and their families are invited to register for one day to learn what to expect during the first year of university. It gives first-year students the opportunity to meet new potential classmates and it offers tips for success and tours of the campus. There also is a free lunch sponsored by The University of Winnipeg Students’ Association.

“I chose UWinnipeg because it has a very reputable science program,” shared Truss. “I’ve heard nothing but good things about it from my friends who have attended in previous years. I’m looking forward to the small class sizes and being able to have a more personal connection with professors.”

Her favourite movie is The Blind Side; her favourite artist is Ed Sheeran; and while she mostly watches movies on Netflix, her favourite show is Pretty Little Liars.
