Winnipeg’s national reputation as a centre for human rights advocacy is growing. To build on this, UWinnipeg’s Global College has created the Human Rights Hub Winnipeg website with the vision of alum, Christie McLeod, a Winnipeg Foundation Emerging Leader Fellow.

The Human Rights Hub provides a central space to coordinate and promote the events and activities of the many individuals and groups taking action on human rights issues in Winnipeg. The Hub focuses on local activities, but has a global outlook on issues.

“Winnipeg has seen a significant discourse in both public awareness and interest about human rights issues over the last few years,” expressed McLeod, Founder & Managing Director, Human Rights Hub Winnipeg.  “In addition to housing the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, our city is home to over 100 organizations that work in this field.  This new virtual space will foster relationships between Winnipeggers and the organizations working to make our city, country and world a better place for all.”

The site includes a shared calendar for human rights events, a space to learn about current employment and volunteer opportunities, profiles of Winnipeg organizations active in human rights issues, and a shared blog to learn what organizations are up to in our city.

“The Hub is a way to build synergy among those groups,” said Dr. Dean Peachey, Executive Director, Global College. “To use a common phrase, it’s a way for the whole to be greater than the sum of the parts. The Hub will also serve the public by providing a central place for individuals to see what is happening on the human rights scene—events, job and volunteer opportunities, and quality blogs.”

Human Rights Hub Winnipeg website is supported by UWinnipeg’s Global College and The Winnipeg Foundation. You can view the site at Human Rights Hub Winnipeg .
