WINNIPEG, MB – More than a dozen University of Winnipeg undergraduate students engaged in high-level research projects in the fields of natural sciences and engineering have been awarded more than $4500 each from Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), along with an added supplement from their supervisor.

Strength of Our Undergraduate Programs
The Undergraduate Student Research Award winning students really showcase the strength of our undergraduate programs and in particular, our ability to support their emerging capacities as researchers,” said Dr. Sandra Kirby, Associate Vice-President (Research) and Dean of Graduate Studies. ”Many go on to be academic or professional researchers. The Research Office is very proud to celebrate their accomplishments with them.”

High-level Research
Student projects range from anthropology to physics. These research grants give undergraduate students experience in high-level research, normally reserved for graduate students at other academic institutions.

These prestigious undergraduate awards stimulate students and their interest in pursuing further graduate studies in the fields of natural sciences and engineering. These awards can act as a catalyst towards the establishment of a career devoted to research in the natural sciences and engineering. They are also important to the Faculty supervisors, greatly enhancing the research capability at UWinnipeg.
