UWinnipeg Alumni Association calls for 2015 nominations

The University of Winnipeg Alumni Association is calling for nominations from the public for its annual naming of two Distinguished Alumni in 2015. Named at the Spring and Fall Convocations, the award honours alumni of The University of Winnipeg who have achieved great distinction through their contributions to the University and/or the local or global community. Nominations are accepted from anyone throughout the year, and are considered for two consecutive years.

“One of the most exciting things we get to do is honour our fellow alumni. Graduates of The University of Winnipeg have helped to shape our city and have left an indelible mark on the world,” said UWinnipeg Alumni Association President, Kevin Freedman. “This is our chance to recognize unique accomplishments and re-connect with some amazing former students.”

The 2014 Award winners were James Wilson, Treaty Commissioner for the Treaty Relations Commission of Manitoba, who works to strengthen, rebuild and enhance the Treaty relationship and mutual respect between First Nations and Manitobans through public education, research and facilitation; and Dr. Peter Norton, Professor of Psychology at the University of Houston, who is a leading researcher in the field of anxiety disorders and founder and Director of the University of Houston Anxiety Disorder Clinic, whose clinical and service work has made a difference in many lives.

Previous recipients of the award include former Premier of Manitoba, Howard Pawley; filmmaker Guy Maddin; entertainer Fred Penner; former Winnipeg Free Press editor Margo Goodhand; and Former National Security Advisor to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Margaret Bloodworth.

I.        A nomination form
