Wesmen release 2014-15 regular season schedules

Wesmen 2012-13The University of Winnipeg Wesmen is pleased to announce the release of the full Canada West Conference schedules for the upcoming 2014-2015 soccer, basketball,volleyball and wrestling campaigns.

SOCCER: 
The Wesmen men’s and women’s soccer teams will kick off their third season in the CIS in early September .The women’s team with newly appointed head coach Amy Anderson will begin their season on September 5-6 against Saskatchewan and Regina at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex. The men’s team with Pedro Daza at the helm will start their season on the road in Edmonton against the Alberta Golden Bears on September 6-7.

The men’s team will play their regular season home opener on Friday, September 12 against the Lethbridge Pronghorns. The following day the women’s team will take on their cross-town rivals Manitoba Bisons in the soccer portion of the 24th Annual Duckworth Challenge.

Both teams will play a total of 12 regular season games (six home, six away). The Canada West Soccer playoffs begin on Saturday, October 25th (Canada West Quarter Finals) and continue with the Canada West Final Four the next weekend (October 31 – November 1). The CIS Soccer Championships will take place from November 6-9 at Prince Edward Island (men’s) and Laval (women).

BASKETBALL:
 The Wesmen men’s and women’s basketball teams will open up their respective regular season schedules on home court against the Calgary Dinos on Friday, October 31st. The teams will play a total of eight games before the holiday break (four home, four away). The men’s team will take part in the 48th Annual Wesmen Classic (December 28-30).
Following the holiday break the Wesmen will begin the second half hosting Alberta on Friday January 9th. Winnipeg will host the basketball portion of the 24th Annual Duckworth Challenge against the Manitoba Bisons on Friday, January 30.

The Canada West playoffs begin with a play-in best of three series on February 20-22. The quarterfinals take place on February 27-March 1 followed by the Canada West Final Four on March 6-7.

The CIS Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships will be played on March 12-15. The men’s championship will take place at Ryerson University while the women’s championship will be decided at Laval.

Winnipeg Wesmen Women’s Basketball Schedule

VOLLEYBALL: The Wesmen men’s and women’s volleyball teams will begin the 2014-2015 season on home court on Friday, October 10th against the Saskatchewan Huskies. Winnipeg will wrap up their busy first half schedules on Saturday, November 29th hosting the Mount Royal University Cougars.

Winnipeg will begin their second half on the road on Friday, January 9th in Edmonton against the University of Alberta. The Volleyball portion of the 24th Annual Duckworth Challenge will take place at the University of Manitoba on Thursday, January 29.
The postseason action begins on the weekend of February 13-15 with the Canada West Quarterfinals. The Final Fours are set for February 20-21.

The University of Saskatchewan plays host to the CIS Men’s Championships from February 26-28, while the women’s championship will take place at the University of Toronto from February 27-March 1.
